Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long will it take me to see a difference?
Most people with dry skin can feel the difference as soon as they apply ProKera. It makes the skin feel "like normal" again right away: soft, silky smooth and moist but not greasy. The amazing thing is that after washing, skin feels softer than it did before washing. Once you start using ProKera, you don't have to apply lotion as often because it stays on through several hand washings and on the body from shower to shower. And you don't use nearly as much ProKera per application as with other lotions.
2. Why is ProKera better than other moisturizers?
ProKera contains free glycolic acid. Not many other moisturizers do. The acid penetrates through the skin's outer protective shield (the stratum corneum layer), dissolving the adhesives that hold skin cells together. When you wash the next time, those adhesives let go, releasing the rough skin cells down the drain, leaving the new, softer, smoother layer of skin exposed to your touch. This process is called exfoliation. Skin normally exfoliates itself on a regular basis but when it gets very dry, the process slows and skin feels rough. Application of ProKera speeds up the skin's normal exfoliation process. Read what our customers tell us about ProKera.
3. Should I keep using my steroids?
ProKera is not a replacement for your medication, it is an addendum to treatment. Use cortisone creams, if prescribed, until the skin is clear and then use ProKera to help maintain it. There is some indication in the literature that use of alpha hydroxy acids in tandem with cortisones actually improves the effect of the cortisone. You may try using them together: apply ProKera first and then your cortisone cream to improve its penetration or alternate them. We are all individuals and our skin reacts differently from one another. Figure out what works best for you by experimenting. Follow your physician's recommendations first.
4. Why only SPF 15 sun protection factor?
SPF 15 is really all you can expect to get from a sunblock cream. Anything more than that is hype. If you want more protection, put on light weight clothing to shield your sun exposed body parts.
5. What do you recommend as a skin care regimen for extremely dry skin?
Our recommended skin care regimen involves both care of the skin and some changes in habits that can exacerbate your dry skin condition.
6. How long will it take to get my order?
We attempt to process all orders within 24 hours. Internet orders are shipped free by USPS parcel post or UPS ground. Transit time depends on the distance between us. Cross country orders generally arrive in five working days. Shorter distances require less transit time. Expedited service is available but you pay the difference.
